"My practice explores themes of identity and identification, using lines as a central motif. Historically, lines have marked identity, from scarification and tribal marks to modern barcodes. Similarly, lace with its intricate interplay of lines represents the ambiguities of identity, blurring the lines between concealment and exposure. Through my paintings, I draw inspiration from my childhood and community to examine the Black figure within daily life and socio-political contexts. By referencing barcodes, lace, and the scars of history, I investigate the commodification of the body and the complexities of identity. Ultimately, my work seeks to inspire self-reflection, encouraging viewers to question who they are and what they can become."
